About Us

Afrikan Perspectives With Baba Oshi

Afrikan Perspectives with Baba Oshi is more than a podcast — it’s a platform for Afrikan-centered truth, resistance, and reflection. Through weekly discussions, tributes, historical deep-dives, and open forum dialogues, we tackle the most pressing issues affecting Afrikan people globally — from the legacy of Slavery and Colonization to the modern-day fight for self-determination.

We are unapologetically Afrikan in our approach, grounded in the belief that our liberation begins with knowledge of self, community dialogue, and the reclaiming of our historical narrative. Whether revisiting the Berlin Conference, examining the assassination of Malcolm X and Dr. King, or honoring our Afrikan ancestors and elders, this program centers Black consciousness, Black power, and Black futures.

Hosted by Baba Oshi, Co-hosted by Irvin Lewis, and joined by powerful voices from across the Afrikan world, Afrikan Perspectives exists to inspire thought, action, and unity among Afrikan people—wherever we may be. This is a space where we speak boldly, listen deeply, and move intentionally toward sovereignty, healing, and nation-building.

Baba Oshiyemi Adelabu (Baba Oshi) began his on-air journey in the late 70’s and 80’s as a guest speaker discussing central city community issues in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the former WAWA radio station on the O.C. White show. His on-air presence continued into the 90’s and early 2000’s on the Eric Von radio program where he served as a regular panelist and substitute host, particularly for the popular “Man Show Fridays” program.

In 2014 he began his Afrikan Perspectives radio program on Blog Talk Radio which transitioned to the Time For an Awakening platform in 2017 where he continued to discuss issues pertinent to Afrikan communities throughout the Diaspora.

Baba Oshi is pleased to continue bringing perspective to those issues facing the Afrikan Community on this independent platform operated by Afrikans and American Afrikans.

Professionally, Baba Oshi is a retired Captain of the Milwaukee Fire Department and past president of the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters (IABPFF). He is proud of his community activism, is a speaker and a lecturer for Afrikan and American-Afrikan History.

Irvin N.Lewis Jr. was born in Baltimore Maryland. He retired after a 35-year career as a firefighter in the 5th largest fire department, he was a founding member and two-time president of the Guardian Knights, a chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters (IABPFF). The IABPFF is a fraternal organization dedicated to leveling the playing field for American Africans in fire departments across the world. He became conscious as an adult and realizing that he may not be in Africa, but Africa is in him! He has now dedicated my life to the liberation of his people.
